We had an incredible storm last night. John had said it must really rain heavily because the house gutters were 3 times of the size of ours at home – he was not wrong! We left Nerja in the sunshine, ready to start the next leg of our adventure. We were due to visit AlmerimarContinue reading “On the Road to Mojácar”

Gualchos
The light at the end of the tunnel today is Gualchos. This tiny sleepy village is neatly nestled between the sea and Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, it’s extremely pretty – a picture postcard and totally non-commercialised. I guess that most of the residents here are Spanish although I understand that a few expats have movedContinue reading “Gualchos”
Adra, La Rabita, Los Yessos and Castell de Fero
We headed out east today, past Motril to the town of Adra. The thing that overwhelmed me more than anything (despite being surrounded by beautiful mountains) was the sea of plastic. This is true agricultural land and every spare centimetre of land is covered in plastic. It is tropical fruit growing country, big time. AdraContinue reading “Adra, La Rabita, Los Yessos and Castell de Fero”
La Herradura
About 4 miles east of Almunecar along the coast is La Herradura. We drove down into the bay through pine forests, past some gorgeous villas. I wonder if we could afford to live here? It has a very upmarket feel about it and is definitely the best place we have seen. The seafront is prettyContinue reading “La Herradura”
Almuñécar
Alumnecar is our next stop and our day is definitely improving. We got out and had a walk around the old town. This is a really lovely town, about the same size as Falmouth. Quite Spanish but there are clearly quite a few nationalities about. We walked up into the old town, where the streetsContinue reading “Almuñécar”
Salobreña and Vélez de Benaudalla
Today we decided to go inland to start. We travelled east from Nerja to Salobrena and then north to Velez de Benaudalla. The town is set in a valley with beautiful mountains all around it. Velez de Benaudalla is a small but lively Spanish working town and as such is well equipped with amenities ofContinue reading “Salobreña and Vélez de Benaudalla”
Frigiliana, to Torrox and Torre del Mar
After Nerja we visited the acclaimed village of Frigiliana. This is an incredibly pretty place with stunning views out over the sea. The village is a labyrinth of steep and narrow cobbled streets, lined with whitewashed houses, their wrought-iron balconies filled with planters of brilliant red geraniums. You could certainly get a lovely apartment orContinue reading “Frigiliana, to Torrox and Torre del Mar”
Nerja
Today I am going to get into location mode. We are looking for a house with a bit of space around it, i.e. a good sized garden and a pool. I am not convinced we are going to find this in Nerja, not in our price range anyway. The town is busy and bustling hereContinue reading “Nerja”
Arriving in Nerja
Arrived at the villa, which is up out of town, through an urbanisation and along a dirt track that is precariously balanced above the motorway, which flows hundreds of feet below. Yes of course it has the required sheer drop and narrow hairpin bends! What else should we expect from a mountain goat path? TheContinue reading “Arriving in Nerja”
Hotel El Hildago, Valdepeñas
We arrived at Hotel El Hidalgo off Junction 194 of the A6 at around 3.00pm. It was like an old-fashioned motel that you see in 1970s American movie. We were in the land of the windmills and surrounded by olive trees and grape vines. It sounds romantic and I guess it would have been hadContinue reading “Hotel El Hildago, Valdepeñas”
