We decided to go and do a bit of Sunday sight-seeing today. We started off in Xalo, also known as Jalon. This is a mountain town and visitors flock to the Saturday market, which takes place in a dry river bed. That must be the only day of the week that the place has anyContinue reading “Xalo, Benissa and Teulada”

Benitachell Beach
We had a tourist day and went out to the beach at Benitachell. It was absolutely beautiful. The sea was turquoise and the beaches white. Little caves line the beaches on the far side, only accessible by boat or parachute! The steep cliffs plumet to the sea below, sheer drops that are not for theContinue reading “Benitachell Beach”
We moved to Denia!
Things have improved considerably on the accommodation front. We are now in Denia half way up Montgo with fabulous views over Denia to the castle and the marina. It is a lovely house and we have proper heating! Our last house did not have any heating and although the days are hot the evenings areContinue reading “We moved to Denia!”
Javea
We went back to Javea today, such a gorgeous place to be. The morning was beautiful and 23 degrees before 10am! Jazz & Raffy made a friend called Billy whose owner was a very friendly Spanish guy … We went to the other side of the bay from the marina and visited the Arunal Beach. Continue reading “Javea”
Denia Marina
We have now discovered that there is Denia port and Denia Marina. The port is quite smart but the Marina is very sophisticated. There are lots of lovely restaurants with rooftop views over the Marina and plenty of places to walk and take in the ambiance. Very nice indeed!
Javea Marina and Beach
Javea is known as the Dawn of Spain (Amanacer de Espana) because it’s three headlands are the first place to catch the sun in Spain each morning. This is a working fishing port dating back to the 15th century, there are nets everywhere and a very salty sea and fishy smell! The nearby restaurants willContinue reading “Javea Marina and Beach”

Moraira began life as a fishing village and is now the chosen destination for expat retirees to Spain. One third of the 10,000 population are British. It is still aContinue reading “Moraira”
Calp
Calp is dominated by the towering rock of Ifach which reaches an impressive 332m, rising almost sheer above the sea. The summit of the rock is reached after a tough climb up a footpath, by means of a short tunnel through the upper part of the rock. The tourist books warn that the path aboveContinue reading “Calp”
Altea
At Altea the Sierra Bernia mountains form a stunning backdrop as they come down to meet the sea. Altea is similar to other Spanish seaside towns in that it has a new and an old part. The two parts, coast side and town side, are split by the very busy N332 coast road. On theContinue reading “Altea”
Dénia
This place is fabulous! Quite a contrast to everything else we have seen over the past few days. It is a busy and vibrant and a real working town but along side that it also has a very smart marina with bars and restaurants. The icing on the cake is the old town and castleContinue reading “Dénia”
