Javea is known as the Dawn of Spain (Amanacer de Espana) because it’s three headlands are the first place to catch the sun in Spain each morning.
This is a working fishing port dating back to the 15th century, there are nets everywhere and a very salty sea and fishy smell! The nearby restaurants will be serving up the catch of the day at lunchtime. At the other end of the fishing harbour is the marina, full of interesting yachts, a lovely area for a walk around this morning. Would be beautiful in the evening with the lights too.
The whole place has an honest feel about it, not upmarket or down-market, just real! Cafes and restaurants line the promenade, punctuated by cute little shops. It is a pleasure to be here in the sunshine, seeing people enjoying their Saturday breakfast at a cafe and reading the paper. Cats are sunbathing on the rocks, presumably having enjoyed their fresh fish breakfasts! The atmosphere is great.
