Xalo, Benissa and Teulada

We decided to go and do a bit of Sunday sight-seeing today.

We started off in Xalo, also known as Jalon.  This is a mountain town and visitors flock to the Saturday market, which takes place in a dry river bed.  That must be the only day of the week that the place has any appeal, we are struggling to find it today! We wandered around until we found a square with an old church and decided that must be the focal point.

Moving swiftly on we headed for Benissa.  This was a lovely town with a great buzz even on Sunday.  People were enjoying their lunch in cafes and bars but we didn’t join them – we brought a picnic today because the last time we went for lunch the dogs spotted a cat and took off dragging John, his chair and the table with them!

Benissa sits high on a hill and the twin towers of the Cathedral can be seen for miles around.

We did a bit of driving around the countryside, the views out to sea here are stunning.  It is a beautiful area, green and terraced with grapevines.  They make a lot of wine around here.

Our last stop was in Teulada.  Another pretty town with lots of charm.  It’s a proper working town but has the old core to it.  Would be a great place to come when the shops are open!

We finished our day with a lovely walk along the beach and down to the old port at Javea, an area we love.
